Closures

The YMCA is closed on the following holidays to allow our staff to celebrate with their families:

  • New Year’s Day (closes at 1 pm on New Years Eve)
  • Easter Sunday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day (closes at 1pm on on Christmas Eve)

The YMCA utilizes county snow emergency levels in determining cancellation of programs or closing. Please call ahead, check the website or Facebook for updates.

Our History

The YMCA of Sandusky County was chartered in 1953 in an old school at the corner of East State and South Fifth streets. We officially became the YMCA of Sandusky County in 1960. In December of 1962, we moved to our current location, while it was still under construction. In 1985 the field house was constructed followed by the fitness center in 1999. Post Covid 19 the YMCA has seen a series of refresh projects including updating the Don Miller Room, ChildWatch, the Cycling Studio, the Child Development Center, Main Lobby, & staff offices. In 2023 YMCA program sites at Terra State Community College and the Fremont Senior Center opened and began offering fitness classes. In 2024 a second YMCA Child Development Center opened and is located at Hayes Memorial UMC. 2024 also marked the opening of a third off site program center at Otterbein Senior Life in Marblehead offering Community Health Programming. Today our Y remains focused on meeting the needs of our community and being a collaborative organization.
