YMCA of Sandusky County

Message from the CEO

YMCA of Sandusky County under temporary management with the YMCA of Greater Toledo

Effective May 1, 2021, Denise Reiter our long time CEO of over 20 years has retired.  Denise had been with the Sandusky County YMCA for over 40 years and we are thankful for her leadership and guidance especially throughout the past year’s COVID-19 pandemic.  We wish Denise a very happy and enjoyable retirement as she  definitely earned it.

The YMCA of Sandusky County Board of Directors signed a management agreement with the YMCA of Greater Toledo to provide executive leadership of the operation.  With that agreement the YMCA of Greater Toledo has assigned Jeremiah Wagner as the Executive Director/Interim CEO to run the day to day operations at our YMCA here in Fremont.  Wagner, a Fremont native and ’96 Ross High graduate returns to his hometown with an extensive YMCA career with over 15 years Y management experience spanning three different associations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“I am extremely excited to be back in Fremont leading the operation of the YMCA I grew up in as a youth.  I spent many hours at the YMCA swimming, playing basketball and running laps for track practice on our indoor track.  When I heard Denise would be retiring soon I quickly threw my name in to assist with the management of the YMCA of Sandusky County.  With my community knowledge and strong relationships I believe we can accomplish great things in the future for our YMCA and the surrounding communities we serve.”

The toughest COVID-19 challenges have passed as we attempt to return to a normal operation.  YMCA members continue to return to our facility and we have lifted all of the COVID-19 restrictions.  Effective June 2 state and local health departments lifted the required mask mandate therefore the YMCA no longer requires members or guests to wear a mask while in our facility. We will not ask for confirmation of vaccination from any member choosing to not wear a mask. We will also be supportive to any member or guest that chooses to continue wearing a mask, whether or not they have been vaccinated.

As we move forward, the YMCA will continue to provide important services and programs to the community around youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  While under new management we plan to focus on youth and family oriented activities, the overall member experience, helping members meet their wellness goals while strengthening and building community relationships.
